About the Database

The database allows users to search, find and view project-specific financial information on infrastructure projects. Users may select projects on the map to view their information contained in pop-ups/tooltips. The nature of data collected is different for each database and so, the database offers the facility to view a particular database individually. Basic analysis/summarization of the data for different datasets has been provided. Users may also filter information on various parameters such as states, financial institutions, various performance metrics and sources of funding.

Introduction to the datasets

The Thermal (Coal) Dataset contains information on Coal Power Plants, which are above 1000MW, commissioned after 2005. The parameters covered include the owner of the project and whether the project is public or private; state in which the project is located; commissioned capacity and commissioning year; the financial institutions that have lent to the project and the amount of loan given. Users may use filters to see projects in selected states and their respective total debt or view list of projects and the amount of loan received from selected banks/financial institutions.

The Solar Dataset contains information on Solar Power Plants/Parks, which are above 100MW, commissioned after 2005. The parameters covered include the owner of the project and whether the project is public or private; state in which the project is located; commissioned capacity and commissioning year; the financial institutions that have lent to the project and the amount of loan given; companies that have purchased an equity stake in the project and the value of equity. Users may use filters to see projects in selected states and their total debt and equity or view list of projects and the amount of loan received from selected banks/financial institutions.

The Smart Cities Dataset contains information on 100 cities selected under the Smart Cities Mission, 2015. The parameters covered include the state in which the smart city is located; total number of projects issued and completed; total amount of funds allocated overall and by the union and state governments; and the amount of funds utilised; the proposed sources of funds. Users may use the state filter to see the total projects issued and completed for the smart cities and the sources of funds in the selected state.

The National Infrastructure Pipeline (NIP) Dataset contains information on various projects under the India Investment Grid, a platform for private individuals looking to invest in various infrastructure projects in the country. The parameters covered include states and infrastructure sectors in which projects are being implemented; the project cost; the type of PPP model used; project status; and the share of funds coming from Centre's Budget, State's Budget, VGF, PPP, Internal Accruals, External Aid and Debt. One may make use of the state filter to see the share of funds arising from various sources for the selected state. Similarly, users may filter projects by selecting a particular sector, in which they may be interested, to view the sources of funds for the selected sector.

Methodology

We have collected data from various sources such as government websites and official documents, newspapers, annual reports and financial statements, RTIs, commercial databases and few more.

For each transaction, the amount shown is the amount committed from the financial institution on the date that the loan, grant, or guarantee was approved by the institution. The amount is entered in India Rupee (INR) and If currency conversion is required, the India Rupee amount is calculated based on the exchange rate on the approval month of that year.
